There has already been $300 million invested in the Hawaii Superferry.
And executives said there is enough money to see them through these rough times when they are not making money.
The Superferry still is not making any trips to either to Maui or Kauai. As the Superferry sits idle at the Honolulu Harbor, more stranded customers are taking flights back to their home island.
"We thought in the worst case they'd allow us to come back in three days or so if the judge ruled accordingly but we never thought they'd totally shut it down and strand us so now as you can see we're at the airport," said Christopher Harder, who flew back to Maui from Oahu after taking the Superferry on Sunday.
Harder was one that could not wait any longer. He had to get back to his job on Maui.
"We took some time Tuesday, about two and a half hours going over to the Superferry, and then going to the Superferry corporate offices to get refunds or what not," Harder said.
He had to leave his truck on Oahu at the Superferry terminal with his surf boards and other stuff. Now he has been told he will have to come back to empty the truck before it could get on a cargo ship and returned to Maui. That would mean he would have to fly back to Oahu just to empty the truck to ship.
Harder said that is not a reasonable option.
"So it's been kind of a hassle," Harder said.
"Our whole goal is to take care of all our passengers," said John Garibaldi, president and CEO of Hawaii Superferry.
Superferry executives said they will reimburse passengers for all their expenses, including airfare, hotels, and car rentals.
The people we spoke with don't know when that will be and have not been told how they will solve the car shipping problem.
Meanwhile, Superferry employees said they continue to come to work and continue to get paid as normal.
Superferry employees said they have been told to keep the ship ready for when it runs again. They also say they are not worried about getting laid off.
"Our staff is a phenomenal group of people. They provide a great service to our passengers, they support each other as we deal with this situation," Garibaldi said.
